VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Please check all areas of interest. Even a few hours during the year on a single project would be most helpful and qualifies you as an active volunteer.

*Patient Contact Volunteer: volunteers needed to offer companionship and support to hospice patients and their families.

*Nursing Home Volunteer: volunteers needed to support our hospice patients in a Nursing Home environment.

*Oncology & Palliative Care Unit Volunteer: volunteers needed to support patients at Elliot Hospital’s Oncology and Palliative Care Unit. Orientation provided.

*Bereavement Team Volunteer: volunteers needed to support bereaved families through phone contact. Calls are made at the VNA one evening a month.

*General Adult Bereavement Support Group: Volunteers needed for our adult bereavement support groups. Eight week groups are offered ongoing throughout the year. Need: 3 ½ hours a week commitment. Training and support provided.

*Stepping Stones(our children’s bereavement program)Facilitator: volunteers needed to facilitate small groups of bereaved children(ages 5-18). This is an 8-week program that is offered to the community twice a year (spring and fall). Training and support provided.

*Drop In Center Volunteer: volunteers needed to offer those recently bereaved an opportunity to share their grief. The center is located at the Elliot Senior Health Center every Monday morning 10:00AM to 11:30AM

*Vigil Team Volunteer: volunteers needed to be available to patients and family members during the active phase of the dying process. Volunteers needed for 1-2 hour shifts.

Angel Food To Go Volunteer: volunteers needed to provide a meal to a hospice family in need.

Office Volunteer: volunteers needed to perform various office tasks including bulk mailings, filing, photocopying, etc.

Child Care Center Volunteer: volunteers needed to read, play or share a skill

Parent Baby Adventure Volunteer : volunteers needed to provide group parenting support to young parents with newborns, infants and older children. The program is offered to parents in a “home-like”setting. Orientation provided.

Parent Baby Parent Adventure Volunteer: volunteers needed once a month for a few hours to sort new donations of food and clothing.

Community Services Volunteer volunteers needed to support nursing staff at community health clinics. Tasks include: Greeting, simple administrative tasks.

Nursing Home Without Walls volunteers needed to assist elders in the community in efforts to maintain their independence at home. Some of the tasks would be: offer telephone reassurance(with scripted questions); transportation; socialization, and other specific tasks they may need. This would be a great way to “give back” to some of the seniors in our community.

VNA Personal Services volunteers needed to assist with the mailing of birthday cards to clients; assist with telephone calls to clients to assess customer satisfaction and other tasks as appropriate. This would be a perfect opportunity for someone who could devote a few hours one or two times a month.

Pet Therapy Volunteer: volunteers needed to visit hospice patients in nursing or private homes with a certified pet therapy animal.

Speakers Bureau: volunteers needed to speak about VNA services and porgrams to organizations, church groups, etc.
